Elk Run Farm, Farm Assistant Summer Associate VISTA

South King County Food Coalition (SKCFC) is a network of independent food banks south of Seattle, WA that have been working together to share best practices, resources, and improve food security across our region for almost 40 years. The twelve food bank members each serve unique communities and have individual partnerships, specific ways of supporting their clients, and bringing differing perspectives into the network. Through membership in South King County Food Coalition, food banks have created shared programming including shared transportation, local food purchasing, and a sustainable farm. SKCFC staff work to grow, purchase, and distribute the local, fresh produce that is in demand across the region. In direct response to community feedback, the coalition is pivoting toward sourcing more cultural foods for the food banks that best meet the needs of our communities. This AmeriCorps opportunity is a project of Harvest Against Hunger, which connects local growers, food banks, and volunteers to secure fresh produce for distribution to thousands of people throughout Washington State. The Harvest VISTA program finds innovative ways to decrease waste of fresh fruits and vegetables and increase the availability of nutritious produce for food bank clients. The VISTA Summer Associate (SA) program will work in an intensive level of summer service for 10 weeks.
