Kitsap Conservation District VISTA Summer Associate

The Summer Associate position, hosted by Kitsap Conservation District would strengthen and build on food system programming and activities in Kitsap and North Mason Counties. Since 2017 Kitsap Conservation District’s engagement in food policy and hunger relief has created partnerships, expanded capacity, and increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables for food insecure community members. The Summer Associate will build on existing efforts and create new opportunities. Primary activities would include supporting the Kitsap Farm to Food Pantry Program, expanding opportunities for food processing, assisting with educational outreach to support food system activities in Kitsap County, conducting a community food assessment, and identifying gaps in services and support policies that would increase access to healthy foods for vulnerable populations. This AmeriCorps opportunity is a project of Harvest Against Hunger, which connects local growers, food banks, and volunteers to secure fresh produce for distribution to thousands of people throughout Washington State. The Harvest VISTA program finds innovative ways to decrease waste of fresh fruits and vegetables and increase the availability of nutritious produce for food bank clients. The Summer Associate program will work in an intensive level of summer service for 10 weeks.
