BMVP - Expand Addiction Services Programs

Gratitude In Action’s mission is to fund Recovery and Sober Living by creating a community that empowers men and women the opportunity to become self-supporting. We believe that together we can change our communities one life at a time. Research continues to show that over a third of people experiencing homelessness also suffer from substance use disorders or mental health issues. For people struggling with co-occurring disorders in addition to homelessness, the recovery journey can be extremely difficult. According to a study done by the Substance Abuse Connect Coalition, substance abuse related deaths are on the rise in Yellowstone County. Furthermore, a severe housing shortage continues to be present for low-income, homeless, and at-risk persons in our community. As a response to a continued lack of affordable housing and increasing rates of substance abuse, the Sober Streets program at Gratitude In Action (GIA), offers financial stipends to those who would otherwise be unable to afford Sober Living. Individuals with histories of substance abuse, homelessness and/or incarceration are provided with a safe, structured, and stable residence to aid in their recovery. The provision of affordable housing, in addition to the educational and life skills components for the residents in sponsored Sober Living Homes in Billings, creates a unique recovery experience. This immersion program not only provides necessary guidance in how to gain self-sufficiency, but also teaches the skills needed to transition from homelessness to family style living. Creating environments that allow and encourage people to become self-supporting and sober, individuals will gain the skills that increase their access to healthy opportunities. By providing safe, affordable access to housing and recovery programs, individuals are able to address barriers to self-sufficiency and break the cycle of poverty and addiction.

Member Duties : Expand and improve access to addiction recovery services through capacity building efforts in Billings, Montana! The overall goal of this project is to expand and improve access to Sober Living Homes and addiction recovery programs for individuals struggling with substance abuse, mental health barriers, and/or homelessness. Gratitude In Action has implemented the Sober Streets program in the community in order to provide financial assistance for those individuals in need of recovery options without the financial means to do so. The VISTA members will complete a community assessment, assist with volunteer recruitment and tracking, develop diversified funding streams, participate in community outreach, and assist with technology development for the program. This will alleviate poverty by expanding programs that provide substance abuse treatment, life-skills, education, and employment services so they may experience healthy lives and the opportunity to move out of poverty.
