Campus Compact VISTA James Madison University, VA
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member serving at Church World Service in partnership with JMU will work with a team of colleagues who speak more than 10 languages to design and coordinate individual and group classes to help prepare low-income, newcomers, to thrive in the community by increasing their financial literacy and job readiness. The member will collaborate closely with JMU and other local universities to train and mobilize volunteers to serve their community, to improve volunteer management systems and increase the reach of community outreach efforts. The member will identify and collaborate with community partners to increase the capacity of the Harrisonburg community to serve its newest members. Finally, the AmeriCorps member will work to ensure the sustainability of this programming by training and preparing volunteers and community partners to carry out the work at the end of the AmeriCorps project period. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $513.94 in Harrisonburg county. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide fitness center passes, a public transportation pass, access to professional development & training opportunities, and reimbursement for work-related travel in personal vehicle. The AmeriCorps member serving at James Madison University in partnership with Church World Service will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year.
