The AmeriCorps member serving at Blue Ridge Food Bank in partnership with James Madison University will enhance community capacity to address food insecurity, strengthen an inter-organizational collaborative network, and build infrastructure to pilot food programs in regional public schools in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley that will benefit at least 500 children and adults from low-income households. The member will work with JMU and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (BRAFB) to convene community stakeholders that aim to address issues of food insecurity; mapping community resources and assets; assisting with the coordination of the Rockingham Food Task Force to strategize food programming in the local school system; coordinating, marketing, and evaluating the Neighborhood Produce Markets and “Taste Testing” program, including incorporation of new foods that are more culturally appropriate for the Neighborhood Produce Markets’ target audiences. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $513.94 in Rockingham county. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide fitness center passes, professional development (conferences), a public transportation pass, and access to professional development & training opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at Blue Ridge Food Bank and partnership with James Madison University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year.
