CHILDCARE LAUNCH AND FAMILY SERVICES SYSTEMS VISTA

Storytime Village’s mission is to inspire a lifelong love of reading for underserved Kansas children from birth to age eight. The organization is developing a new Literacy Center in Wichita that will connect early learning, books, family engagement, health, workforce development and other community resources in one welcoming location. A central component of the Literacy Center will be an early learning program serving up to 36 children ages three to five in three classrooms. Many families with limited financial resources face barriers to affordable, high-quality childcare, school-readiness opportunities, books and coordinated family support. These barriers can affect parents’ ability to work or pursue education while limiting children’s access to the early experiences that prepare them to thrive. The Childcare Launch and Family Services Systems VISTA will help Storytime Village build the sustainable infrastructure needed to launch and strengthen this program. The VISTA will develop licensing-readiness tools, enrollment and waitlist procedures, family orientation resources, referral systems, partnership databases, outreach materials, volunteer and intern systems, data-tracking tools and written operating procedures. The member will also research funding and in-kind resources and create a transition and sustainability plan for staff. This is a capacity-building assignment. The VISTA will create systems and resources for qualified Storytime Village staff to implement and maintain. Through this service, the VISTA will help expand access to early learning and coordinated resources that strengthen children, families and long-term economic opportunity.

Member Duties : The VISTA will build systems to support the launch of Storytime Village’s early learning program. Activities include researching and organizing childcare licensing requirements; creating licensing-readiness and document-tracking tools; developing enrollment, inquiry and waitlist procedures; creating family orientation materials and communication templates; building a family-resource directory and referral protocol; strengthening partnerships with early childhood, health, workforce and family-serving organizations; developing volunteer, intern and applied-learning student systems; creating outreach and engagement materials; designing data and outcome-tracking tools; researching grants and in-kind resources; and documenting procedures in a transition binder and sustainability plan.
