*BMVP - Increasing Economic Opportunities for Montanans

Snowy Mountain Development Corporation’s mission is to build community and economic capital in Central Montana. Home to a declining population of less than 21,400 residents, SMDC’s region is economically isolated, sparsely-populated and sprawled over more than 12,000 square miles. It is financially underserved with no lending institutions in two of its six counties. All six counties are Medically Underserved Areas. Unemployment and poverty rates in the region are higher than the State and Nation and median household incomes are low. Former US HUD Secretary’s EnVision Center demonstration initiative is founded on the idea that every community provide ample access to services and opportunities for members of vulnerable populations to develop self-sufficiency. Economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness, and character and leadership were identified as the four pillars of self-sufficiency. SMDC provides access, information, and referrals to these services. SMDC’s EnVision Center will build community and economic capital to ensure that all community members have access to the critical services they need. By delivering integrated services through public-private partnerships, SMDC will create the synergy needed to improve individual outcomes while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of multiple programs. The project will alleviate poverty by providing opportunities for low-income families to access affordable housing, workforce training, and rural health care programs and services, thus ensuring economic mobility and financial stability throughout SMDC’s all rural six-county service area.
