FIU Upward Bound AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates AFVN
 
 
 
Florida International University's Office of Upward Bound Math-Science within the School of Education and Human Development seeks to ameliorate the educational inequalities that exist for under-represented, first generation, low-income and minority students in Miami, FL. Education is key for many of these students to rise out of poverty, but the severe lack of role models and the low rate of community educational attainment make it even more difficult for them to succeed on their own. By working with children and their parents, the desired outcome is the extension of the program into the home, impacting the entire family and putting students on a path to college as early as possible, giving them the best possible chance at rising out of poverty through education.

Member Duties : The Summer Associates will be responsible for providing front-line support of the Upward Bound Math-Science Summer Program, tutoring and mentoring the participants. The Summer Associates will be responsible for providing supervision of program participants. Additionally, the Summer Associates will provide academic and residential hall support during the duration of the program.
