FIU Upward Bound Summer Associates Program AFVN

As a Upward Bound Math-Science program, we seek to prepare middle and high school students for post-secondary opportunities including college and certification programs. The goal is to be able to attract college students from similar backgrounds as the students participating in the program, who will help provide a top quality summer enrichment program and experience to the middle and high school student participants. Summer Associates will provide the hands-on direct services needed in order to assist students in developing academically and socially, preventing summer loss in the students served. FIU's Office Upward Bound Math-Science within the School of Education and Human Development seeks to ameliorate the educational inequalities that exist for under-represented, first generation, low-income and minority students in Miami, FL. Education is key for many of these students to rise out of poverty, but the severe lack of role models and the low rate of community educational attainment make it even more difficult for them to succeed on their own.
