Spokane County VISTA Summer Associates
 
 
 
Summer Associates serve at one of four sites. Duties vary by site. 1) Spokane County Library District: Summer Associates will support Camp Read-a-Rama, a virtual half-day camp that centers activities and crafts around books. Associates will facilitate virtual programming, assemble activities to pass out at free lunch sites and assist Youth Services Librarians, prepare materials for Summer Reading by Mail pilot program. 2) West Central Community Center: Summer Associates will support a summer recreation/youth development program for children ages 5-12. Associates will lead activities (games, crafts, sports, etc.), serve breakfast and lunch, escort children on field trips, mentor, clean areas, and monitor activities to ensure children are safe, secure, and having fun. 3) The Zone Project: Summer Associates work with youth ages 4-16 in coordination with other youth-serving agencies at schools in NE Spokane. Associates will provide enrichment activities, support the Spokane Public Schools’ Nutrition Summer FDA Meal program by serving students breakfast and lunch daily, and communicate with community agencies to provide supports as needed. 4) Spokane Parks & Recreation: Summer Associates will assist in planning activities for Funshine Day Camp. Associates will work with developmentally disabled youth through camp programming. Associates will facilitate activities to support youth literacy and social-emotional health, set up and clean space, welcome camp participants, and provide leadership and general supervision during camp activities, such as field trips. Summer Associates in Spokane County receive a living allowance of $36.71 daily ($513.94 biweekly). Training is provided. Summer Associates who complete the 9-week service term receive their choice of either an education award ($1311.11) or a cash stipend ($311).

Member Duties : VISTA Summer Associates support low-income children and youth through direct service in a number of settings, including parks, libraries, and community centers. Summer Associates will serve at one of four host sites in Spokane County to prevent summer learning loss and increase access to meals. Sites include Spokane County Library District, West Central Community Center, The ZoNE Project, and Spokane Parks and Recreation. Duties may include serving meals, mentoring youth, and facilitating activities to support literacy and social emotional health. Summer Associates will also receive training in Youth Program Quality Methods.
