SerVermont - Black River Innovation Campus, Digital Skilling

Southern Windsor County Incubator, d.b.a. Black River Innovation Campus (BRIC), is a 501c3 nonprofit based in Springfield, Vermont. BRIC operates a live-work-learn platform that supports local digital talent opportunities, builds a pipeline of digital economy workers, and creates a dynamic business and entrepreneurship ecosystem. BRIC’s mission is three-fold: First, to build and support digital economy enterprises through the residential Entrepreneurship Program; second, to steward computer science education, digital skilling, and remote training to prepare students and adults for new economy opportunities; and third, to create an innovation ecosystem with a critical mass of tech companies and remote/co-workers that can sustainably thrive in Springfield’s rural setting. In order to achieve its mission and goals, BRIC 1) actively engages with Vermont workforce development agencies to provide digital skills training to underserved and low-income populations; 2) identifies and negotiates pathways to digitally-enabled and remote employment by working with job-seekers and employers, alike; 3) works closely with local and regional school systems and workforce partners to curate meaningful career resources; and 4) produces and curates thought leadership materials to spread awareness of the digital economy ecosystem and to educate job-seekers as they navigate future-of-work resources.
