FUSHC Member Serving at Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village
Are you passionate about fighting blight, neighborhood revitalization, and community engagement? Flint Urban Safety & Health Corps AmeriCorps members provide programming related to food security and nutrition, behavioral and developmental health, early education, crime and blight prevention, and community building, and medical management through local nonprofit organizations as strategies toward long-term recovery from the water crisis. Members are responsible for planning and executing a number of both small and large-scale events that support and further the Program’s mission; these events will be designed in conjunction with the host site, the member, and the Program Manager. Members will present on all program areas covered under the Flint Urban Safety and Health Corps (FUSHC) umbrella. FUSHC members will also be required to attend all accelerator meeting and monthly program specific trainings. At Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, AmeriCorps Member will lead information sessions concerning water crisis recovery, health and nutrition, and educational resources to students and families. The AmeriCorps Member will engage the community through discussions, assess needs, and promote related programs and services, as well as research programming focuses and assist in implementation and facilitation.

Member Duties : 1. Research the benefits of adult coach and peer mentoring, Character Counts curriculum, and the importance of student leadership development. 2. Share with students and families all information and resources regarding our mentoring, leadership, and character-building concept. 3. Assist the coaches and sports directors in recruitment of students for all special events regarding, Athletics, Arts and Academics. 4. Assist in the mentoring program using the information provided. 5. Help promote special events to the community.
