UGA VISTA-2021 Summer Associate- College Factory #1

The mission of College Factory is to provide postsecondary educational planning resources to youth and families in order to build a postsecondary education achievement culture in Clarke County, Georgia. College Factory’s programs encourage youth to complete the process of enrolling in post-secondary education with the eventual outcomes of an increased graduation rate and a better prepared, more competitive workforce. Volunteers from local colleges and universities, along with community members, make up the caring, passionate, and experienced individuals who assist in delivering College Factory programs. College Factory offers high school-aged students access to postsecondary coaching and SAT/ACT test preparation. Additionally, the program delivers community workshops with educational access and retention goals. College Factory’s Go Succeed Fellowship program pairs high school students with coaches who guide them through the postsecondary admissions and scholarship application processes. The personal attention from coaches helps ensure the success of College Factory Fellows. Free awareness and planning workshops that help postsecondary education-bound students and their families explore options and make wise choices are offered regularly. All College Factory services can be offered in-person or virtually.

Member Duties : Two Summer Associates will support College Factory’s mission of providing postsecondary educational planning resources to youth and families. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, College Factory adapted its postsecondary coaching, test preparation and community workshop programs for virtual delivery. Virtual programming has allowed College Factory to contemplate offering postsecondary education preparation to students outside of Clarke County. The AmeriCorps VISTA summer associates will survey counties surrounding Clarke to gather information regarding existing high school and community based postsecondary education preparation support services for students. This information will help the College Factory board determine whether there is a need for its programs in neighboring counties and what gaps might be filled through virtual offerings. Future partnerships between College Factory and surrounding counties would strengthen the postsecondary educational landscape in Northeast Georgia
