UMN College of Pharmacy, IA & MN Campus Compact

The Mission of the University of Minnesota is threefold, focusing on Research, Education, and Outreach. Research: We seek new knowledge that can change how we all work and live. At the University of Minnesota, students do research alongside top professors in all majors. Education: We prepare students to meet the great challenges facing our state, our nation, and our world. Outreach: We apply our expertise to meet the needs of Minnesota, our nation, and the world. We partner with communities across Minnesota to engage our students, faculty, and staff in addressing society's most pressing issues. This VISTA position will focus on community-based solutions to the opioid crisis, which is currently the most critical public health issue in northeastern Minnesota, focusing on capacity building for rural northeastern Minnesota counties and Tribal Nations working with the University of Minnesota on a variety of local and federal grants. The VISTA will partner with local organizations that support harm reduction, public health practice in substance use, and translational research to reduce the impact of the opioid crisis. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions.
