Flint Urban Safety & Health Corps Member
 
 
 
Are you passionate about community safety, fighting blight, neighborhood revitalization, and community engagement. Flint Urban Safety & Health Corps AmeriCorps members provide programming and support related to food security and nutrition, behavioral and developmental health, early education, crime and blight prevention, and community building, and medical management through local nonprofit organizations as strategies toward long-term recovery from the water crisis. Under the supervisor and leadership of the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety, the Flint Urban Safety & Health Corps member will implement initiatives to enhance public safety by reducing crime and the fear of crime and increasing community involvement in the designated area. The interventions employed work to reduce blight, support community by promoting communication and collaboration among residents/organizations, and engage volunteers.

Member Duties : 1.Members enhance trust and cooperation between area law enforcement and the community. 2.Members work with residents from the target area to create block clubs, tenant and landlord organizations, business associations and other community organizations. 3.Members patrol and reduce blight on Flint River Trail. 4.Board up vacant and open properties. 5.Create safe pathways for students traveling to and from school and implement crime prevention strategies. 6.Members work in with community organizations and law enforcement to promote collaboration to enhance the quality of life in the target area. 7.Planning and executing events that support the community. 8.Perform supportive functions around events and meetings. 9.Members foster an equitable local food system that restores the health of the people, community, economy and ecosystem.
