Campus Compact VISTA Wilbur Wright College - Wellness, IL
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member serving at Wilbur Wright College (WWC) will build capacity for the WWC Wellness Center, which provides mental health and other social services to support students’ personal well-being and academic success and specifically assists low-income students with accessing healthcare and other basic needs. The AmeriCorps member at the WWC Wellness Center will assess student needs especially related to Outreach and education about health and mental wellness to increase student participation in both counseling services and outreach programming. They will research best practices and models for meeting these needs at other institutions and will develop a comprehensive Outreach plan. The member will identify and recruit facilitators from Staff and Community Partners for Outreach events for students and will evaluate current community partners for effectiveness and grow the number of community partners involved. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $542.22 in Cook County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide fitness center passes, professional development (conferences), public transit pass, and an internet hotspot. The AmeriCorps member serving at Wilbur Wright College will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at Wilbur Wright College will build capacity by assessing and designing an outreach program that will: increase the quality and quantity of Wellness Center community partnerships, increase the number of low-income students participating in programming, increase number of students participating in direct clinical services at the Wellness Center, and increase number of students with increased connection to medical care. The Outreach Program will target low-income students by completing a student needs assessment and by focusing on access to medical care and education. By expanding the Wellness Center’s capacity to serve students with outreach education, connection to community partner’s health and wellness services and direct clinical services, Wright College’s entire student body (including the 42% of Pell Grant Recipients) will be better connected to healthy futures as a way out of poverty.
