Mission Squash Development & Outreach VISTA, OneStar

Mission Squash’s tri-tiered development focus emphasizes increased access to college prep programs in which scholars acquire the skills and resources necessary to graduate high school, and persist in a post-secondary program; second, we underscore the development of character and integrity so that our scholar may thrive in the workplace of the future; finally, Mission Squash strives to improve the mental and physical wellness of our scholars through intensive squash training and wellness programming. Mission Squash currently supports 46 scholars whose demographics break down into three categories: 78% of our scholars are economically disadvantaged, 58% will be first-generation college students, and 92% are of racial or ethnic minority. The VISTA project will increase fundraising, volunteer, and communications infrastructure for Mission Squash in order to provide more academic, college preparatory, and wellness resources for Houston’s low-income students and lay the groundwork to expand to more students in the future.
