Caring Foundation Immunization Partnership VISTA, OneStar

The Caring Foundation of Texas is providing preventive healthcare to children and their families who are uninsured and underinsured. Many people who live at the poverty level cannot secure medical care, pay for treatments that will improve their health, and purchase healthy foods that can improve their immune system. As an organization, we want to ensure that all Texans have access to preventive healthcare through the Care Van program. Our immunization partnerships serve over 23,000 children and their families every year providing over 29,000 life-saving vaccines. We know that vaccines are the least expensive way to keep a child healthy and protects the medically vulnerable who has contact with the child. As a convener, we gather information that allows us to make informed decisions on areas of focus, create local partnerships and secure the resources that address the issue. We are continuously focused on strengthening our relationship with current operating partners as well as our community outreach. It is important that we define and develop our partnerships to ensure sustainability for the next 20 years. Over the course of the next three years, we are taking steps to reach out to new partners and solidifying our current ones. The Immunization Care Van Partnership and Volunteer Development VISTA's role will include evaluating our current program, re-define our partnerships, and create a volunteer structure so that we can be prepared for any issue that comes to us. The VISTA will research potential community partners and provide materials and information to them to see if there is a level of interest. They will create a LOA/MOU to solidify new and existing partnerships. In addition, the VISTA will attend immunization clinics to make sure that we are carrying out our partnership obligations.

Member Duties : The goal of the VISTA project is to address the barriers that prevent families from securing immunizations by helping the Care Van provide 3200 immunizations within a 12-month period by creating a new immunization model. The VISTA will increase the Caring Foundation of Texas partnerships which will allow us to improve the quality of our immunization clinics thus building our capacity to serve more families. The VISTA will do an analysis of the current programming model and identify risk factors and identify a list of potential community partners. The VISTA member is expected to reach out to potential community partners and inquire about their interest. The VISTA member will solidify 5 school partnerships and create materials that will help strengthen the partnership. These materials will be used as the building blocks for templates and manuals for Scalability.
