Campus Compact VISTA Massachusetts Department of Higher Ed
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member serving at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education will join the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education as we confront hunger, homelessness and other barriers to degree completion. As our 2021-22 AmeriCorps member, you’ll bring a passion for economic justice, organizing skills, writing and speaking talents and analytical capabilities to our emerging basic needs security agenda. Specifically, you’ll work with state agency, campus and housing support staff to expand a network of housing pilots for homeless and housing insecure students. You’ll help ensure that our work is aligned with the DHE’s equity and racial justice principles. You’ll organize and empower students to tell their stories and advocate for their basic needs. And you’ll help convene stakeholders to spread the word on impactful practices. In return for a lot of work you’ll leave a lasting imprint on individual lives and state-level policy. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $1,027.88 in Suffolk county. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide professional development (conferences), a public transportation pass, access to professional development & training opportunities, and a laptop . The AmeriCorps member serving at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education will build capacity to serve students in pilot housing programs to meeting a broader range of student needs including food, transportation, child care, access to technology and mental health – to assess and track progress in this work, and to align it with the Department of Higher Education’s equity and racial justice priorities.
