Campus Compact VISTA Southern Connecticut State University
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member serving at Southern Connecticut State University will be a crucial part of the University Access programs UAP team, where they will lead the Sankofa Family Initiative's expansion, evaluation, and innovation. The AmeriCorps member will conduct outreach to recruit the inaugural group of student and parent/family participants, implement and continually assess the program, and develop a contact database. Capacity built through programming will strengthen a sense of belonging to the university, teach new knowledge for college success, and build empathy with college students' challenges. The member will assess current programs and innovate future Sankofa offerings. They will expand campus and community partnerships to increase support for students and families from low-income backgrounds. They will research and compile content to develop website resources and new programs and leverage social media. The biweekly living allowance for this position is 613.48 in New Haven County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide housing, a fitness center pass, professional development opportunities, and a public transportation pass. The AmeriCorps member serving at Southern Connecticut State University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year.
