"The AmeriCorps member serving at Campus Compact - Giving DuPage will build capacity for the DuPage Higher Education Service Council (DHESC), which is a student-led, countywide collaboration to address the needs of the DuPage community through service. The AmeriCorps member will lead DHESC as it works to build sustainability, create partnerships throughout the county, and address the needs of low-income DuPage residents. As the DHESC is currently being formed, the member will work to create leadership and transition plans, short-term and long-term goals, as well as assessment plans. The AmeriCorps member will work with Giving DuPage and Campus Compact to recruit students, staff, faculty, and community partners to serve and take on leadership roles. In addition to working with DHESC, the member will also be working with local nonprofits on a skills-based volunteering initiative to meet the volunteer needs of DuPage nonprofits. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $575.40 in DuPage County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide professional development and training. The AmeriCorps member serving at Campus Compact and Giving DuPage will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at Campus Compact will build capacity for the DuPage Higher Education Service Council. The goal of the VISTA project is to create a countywide council of higher education institutions, working together, to best meet community needs and support the local nonprofit organizations through service and civic engagement. The Council will be comprised of college students, faculty, and staff who will meet regularly, as a group, and with nonprofit organizations serving DuPage residents living in low-income households. Each institution has its own efforts focused on serving the community including volunteer activities, community-engaged learning, educational resources, and research. The Council will pool assets, or develop new ideas, to best serve community organizations fighting poverty. Ultimately, the purpose of the Council is to create a synergy amongst higher education institutions to address our most pressing community needs through service.
