The AmeriCorps member serving at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology will continue to help establish a counseling center at Oakley Square. The AmeriCorps member will support Oakley Square Apartments by providing educational resources to the community about mental health stigma and promoting the new counseling center. In addition, The AmeriCorps member will help to recruit tutors for the after school program, train the after school program leads to provide trauma-informed care trainings, and work collaboratively with the reading specialist to collect data.The AmeriCorps member will work with the Site Manager and staff from the counseling center to implement a social-emotional learning program within the Homework Help Room (HHR). The memeb will work with the Bachelor’s level students to expand their involvement with Community Partnerships and create a sustainability plan for the added reading component in HHR. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $542.22 in Cook County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide housing rental stipend off campus, public transportation pass, access to professional development & training opportunities The AmeriCorps member serving at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) will build capacity by continuing the work of the previous AmeriCorps member in the creation of a counseling center with The Community Builders Inc. at Oakley Square Apartments. The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for implementing recommendations from the Needs Analysis Report created in 2020-21. In addition, the AmeriCorps member will assist in addressing the issue of stigma related to mental health in the Oakley Square community through the development of expanded services within the Homework Help Room including the incorporation of social-emotional learning curricula and assessment of student mentor-led mentoring services, along with collaborating with the Counseling Center to create reading assessments and precision teaching guidance for reading with youth in the Homework Help Room program.
