Campus Compact VISTA College of DuPage, IL

The AmeriCorps member serving at College of DuPage will work with the Food Security Initiative, a multi-disciplinary group of faculty, staff and students at College of DuPage who are committed to fighting food insecurity for our students. Over the last four years we have grown the Fuel Pantry and Fuel Garden into an amazing operation that supports our students who are facing food insecurity. Our AmeriCorps member will help advance this project is by investigating ways that we can provide more educational opportunities to both campus and community members in nutrition and healthy eating; research ways to increase our funding; and continue the work of previous members in using research and assessment to strengthen our programs. The AmeriCorps member will accomplish this by actively being involved in research; building relationships with community partners, assisting in the creation of materials and making recommendations for the future success of the initiative. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $542.22 in DuPage County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide professional development & training opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at College of DuPage will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. If you would like to learn more about serving with Campus Compact, please email our VISTA Leaders at vista@compact.org.

Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at the College of DuPage, in cooperation with the Food Security Initiative Team, will continue to expand the food pantry and garden operation in order to identify low-income students who may benefit from the service; provide educational opportunities in the areas of sustainability and healthy eating; and conduct regular research, surveys and outreach to continuously improve service to our clients and staff. We have continued to operate the Pantry in an alternate format and will continue to do so until we are able to return to campus.
