The AmeriCorps member serving at National Louis University (NLU) will build the National Louis University‘s Veteran and Military Program capacity to increase the number of veterans, military members, and their family members’ graduation rates and successful attainment of meaningful careers. The member will support the coordination of financial literacy programs to Veterans and military families in order to address their specific financial and economic issues, continue building and developing long-term partnerships with community organizations to assist student veterans and their families secure economic opportunities leading to internships and/or sustainable employment, expand NLU/Kendall's capacity to provide holistic support and wrap-around services to student veterans and their families in order to support degree completion and meaningful employment, develop internal long-term partnerships with NLU/Kendall departments and organizations, and research and submit for development opportunities. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $542.22 in Cook County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide fitness center passes, professional development, and training opportunities. The AmeriCorps member serving at National Louis University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member will build the National Louis University Veterans and Military Program’s capacity to increase the number of veterans, military members, and their family members’ graduation rates and successful attainment of meaningful careers by providing a holistic approach to support the unique needs of this population. The number of veterans living in poverty is growing each year. Many returning Veterans are seeking higher education in an effort to develop a meaningful career and financial stability to avoid the rising poverty rates among veterans. The goal of this project is to improve higher education opportunities/access for veterans, service members, and their families.
