Campus Compact VISTA Rockford Promise, IL
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps member serving at Northern Illinois University - Rockford Promise will build capacity for a growing their new Promise program. Rockford Promise is a diverse scholarship and mentoring program that provides full-tuition scholarships and mentoring services to Rockford Public School students. Aligning with AmeriCorps' anti-poverty objectives, time spent at this post will include program and operations development to support over 100 low-income students, who are at risk due to their socioeconomic status. Additional success strategies include growing a mentoring program and identifying community and civic engagement partnerships. The AmeriCorps member will contribute to the capacity-building goals of the project by performing activities such as building vital data reporting capabilities and developing programming and student support materials. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $575.40 in DeKalb County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide food/grocery gift cards, access to professional development and training, and a phone/internet stipend. The AmeriCorps member serving at Northern Illinois University - Rockford Promise will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member at Northern Illinois University will: assist with development, and evaluation of activities designed to increase student retention, persistence, and job readiness by Rockford Promise Scholars; help recruit mentors and develop workshops and programming for mentor trainings; help identify potential business community partners and the jobs skills needed at partnering mentoring organizations, to strengthen workforce development and job readiness; and research policies and procedures to combine into handbooks that Staff, Scholars, Mentors, and Board of Directors can use.
