The AmeriCorps member serving at the University of Nebraska Omaha’s (UNO) Service Learning Academy (SLA) will focus on training teachers and UNO faculty on how to utilize previously developed resources to create and enhance anti-poverty service-learning courses that will expand the university's reach for fighting poverty. The ultimate goal of this project is for the SLA to be a hub for anti-poverty focused service learning projects. This means that long term partnerships, consisting of community partners, UNO faculty, and P-12 teachers, are focused on projects that address poverty. In addition, this hub will be a natural “go to” for various educators and community organizations interested in engaging youth in this type of work especially those from high poverty schools. The AmeriCorps member will create trainings on how to utilize resources, and acclimate staff and partners on how to continue developing and implementing service learning with an intentional lens of anti-poverty. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $513.94 in Douglas County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide public transportation pass and access to professional development & training opportunities The AmeriCorps member serving at University of Nebraska Omaha will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person trainings including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) would build capacity by strategically leveraging resources to expand anti-poverty service learning projects through outreach to key stakeholders (pre-kindergarten teachers, UNO faculty members, and community organizations), presenting at share out sessions to showcase current projects and recruit new faculty, and train interested partners alongside Service Learning Academy staff.
