UMN CHIP VISTA; IA & MN Campus Compact

The University of Minnesota’s Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP) is partnering with the Community-University Health Care Center (CUHCC) and VISTA to build capacity to serve historically underserved populations while supporting student learning and engagement. CHIP supports students in health professional programs (e.g. Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health) through advising and engagement for student leaders, support for student-parents, and developing and implementing co-curricular interprofessional education experiences. CUHCC is a FQHC with the mission, “Transforming Care and Education to Advance Health Equity.” They offer medical, dental, and mental health services to patients from over 12 different racial and ethnic groups that span five continents. This project has three key goals: 1) Build capacity at CUHCC to support a larger volunteer base to support program growth, such as wellness programs and outreach, 2) Implement a structure at CHIP to create a sustainable pathway for health professional students to engage as volunteers at CUHCC and other non-profit organizations, and 3) Implement sustainable frameworks and structures within CHIP to better serve and support low-income students and students from backgrounds which are underrepresented in the healthcare fields. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
