American Indian Cancer Foundation, IA & MN Campus Compact

The American Indian Cancer Foundation (AICAF) is a Native-led non-profit organization established to address the tremendous cancer inequities faced by American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. Through culturally appropriate community-based programs and policy change that affords AI/AN communities access to the best prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivorship strategies, we see a day where AI/AN communities are free of the burdens of cancer. Cancer survivors face numerous emotional, physical, health-related, psychological, and financial barriers. In many AI/AN communities, access to adequate health care or support services may be limited, which may require individuals to travel long distances to seek such support. Survivor support is a priority for AICAF to address and will be the focus of the VISTA. The goal of the VISTA project is to develop and pilot a survivorship program framework, utilizing strategies across multiple programs within AICAF to address the cancer burden facing low-income AI/AN communities. Supporting activities include developing survivor support education to health care providers, embedding survivorship into all AICAF education, maintain a survivorship network and evaluate the survivorship program at its multiple stages. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
