Macalester College IA & MN Campus Compact VISTA

Macalester College is a residential liberal arts college in St. Paul, MN. The college mission of service to society and centering diversity are also key values of the well-established Civic Engagement Center. The VISTA will be part of our larger Civic Engagement Center team of 5 professional staff and 12 student staff members and thus will gain experience in higher education civic engagement and in collaborating with nonprofits on community-based work. Our VISTA will work to address the issues of hunger and food security issues for college students and in our local community. The position is highly collaborative and creative, working with stakeholders across campus and the local community. Assessment of student needs, searching for examples of equitable food security initiatives on other campus will be part of the work. The VISTA will work towards creating an infrastructure for a dynamic food security program on campus that extends into the community. Professional development is available on topics such as: health equity, sustainability, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***
