Willis Dady Emergency Shelter: Support Services, IAMNCC

The WDHS mission is to provide shelter and prevention services to the homeless and near homeless along with empowering clients to break the cycle of homelessness. This can be accomplished by establishing intensive supports for individuals and households struggling with mental health, substance abuse, and housing insecurities. By researching best practices used in similar settings, along with exploring more long-term landlord networks, will help in creating an intensive streamlined form of support for the population we serve. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. ***Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early.***

Member Duties : The Support Services VISTA will work with our Shelter Services and Housing team to expand the capacity of services we provide, so more individuals facing high barriers to housing are able to make the journey out of poverty by gaining and maintaining mental health stability and sobriety. Research and expansion of Implementing a landlord incentive pilot program to be used by all WDHS programs is essential. The Support Services VISTA will create a plan to transition our current WDHS shelter into a low barrier shelter model. Observation of the Community Overflow and Willis Dady Shelter will be vital in developing a system for training and providing structured, ongoing support to all WDHS staff with new policies and procedures. Best practices for Supportive Housing models on a local, state, and comparable city national level and generating a report of findings along with becoming a Continuum of Care Committee member will be crucial in successfully completing these tasks.
