StarkFresh is a small, but mighty 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Canton, OH, & servicing Stark County, OH. Our mission is tackling the causes of hunger by creating realistic pathways out of poverty. We envision a Stark County where a culture of healthy eating creates people who are healthier & communities that are rejuvenated and empowered. We are connecting growers, consumers, & producers to help create a food system that focuses on making locally sourced, nutrient-dense, & affordable foods available to everyone in Stark County. Being a small organization with several large-scale programs & a limited paid staff, we are quite adept at utilizing partnerships & our volunteer network to keep the programs running smoothly. There are several programs that we currently operate that advance our mission and reduce or remove barriers to break the cycle of poverty and provide fresh, nutritious food in chronically underserved neighborhoods throughout the County. These programs include a Teaching Farm, Training Farm Cooperative Farm, Free Seed Library network, Food Justice Campus which houses the Food Incubation Center, a Shared Commercial Kitchen Space, a Shared Office Space, Nonprofit Neighborhood Grocery Store, and the Mobile Grocery Market. The Summer Associate Urban Farm VISTAwill work with community partners to farm three existing farms. These partners could include formally incarcerated adults, DD population, autistic youth, inner-city youth, formally homeless adults, etc. VISTA will work with mobile Grocery Market & Grocery Store staff to coordinate crop yields. Candidate should be a confident, self-starter with strong project coordination experience and expect to work outside for long periods of time in the sun & with their hands. Vegetable growing experience is preferred but not required. The VISTA member can expect to have many opportunities to learn more about systemic racism and the lasting effects it continues to have on our food system.

Member Duties : The VISTA Member will help manage vegetable crops at StarkFresh’s three urban farming locations and manage the volunteer workforce to ensure smooth operations and crop yields.
