OHA Medical Surge VISTA
 
 
 
We will accept applications, conduct interviews, and select applicants on a rolling basis. All selections will be finalized by May 7th, 2021. This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. The Oregon Health Authority is at the forefront of lowering and containing costs, improving quality and increasing access to health care in order to improve the lifelong health of Oregonians. The Oregon Public Health Division works to protect and promote the health of all Oregonians and the places we live, work, play, learn and age. The Oregon public health system includes federal, tribal, state, and local agencies, private organizations and other diverse partners working together to put healthy options and health-promoting services within reach for everyone in Oregon. Oregon needs a robust public health system to achieve better health and better care at lower costs. This VISTA position is with the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program. The mission of the HSPR Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major and acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon. We collaborate with Oregon Emergency Management (OEM) and our local, regional and national Emergency Management partners. This position is in Portland, home to Oregon’s largest cultural hub. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy explore and appreciate everything the city has to offer. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : This VISTA position is a part of a health equity and COVID-19 response initiative that aims to include the voices of low-income and vulnerable populations in statewide public health planning and response efforts for COVID-19. The AmeriCorps member will draw on lessons learned from the COVID response to: • Build equitable medical surge capacity to underserved areas of rural Oregon • Focus on pediatric preparedness through implementing Tele-medicine capabilities • Coordinate with the Oregon Burn Center and identify training and exercise needs • Influence the Crisis Standards of Care guidance planning by applying health equity in disaster framework
