Groundwork Program Sustainability and Equity VISTA

Since 1995, Appalachian Sustainable Development (ASD) has been working to build a thriving regional food and agriculture system that creates healthy communities, respects the planet, and cultivates profitable opportunities for Appalachians. The Groundwork Program Sustainability and Equity VISTA will primarily support the work of the Groundwork workforce development program. Est. in 2020, Groundwork provides agricultural-based job training to people with barriers to employment. Barriers are wide-ranging and could include lack of education, criminal history, Veteran status, addiction and recovery, workforce re-entry, and more. The Groundwork program focuses on providing 360-degree skill development, which includes job training, personal skill development (like financial literacy), professional skill development (like critical thinking and communication), and entrepreneurship/business skill training. This is the right position for a self-starter who is detail-oriented and business-minded and who wants to use their skills to promote and build programming aimed at helping struggling individuals realize their full potential. They should be excited about developing protocol and replicable work plans to be used past their service year(s). Applicant must have outstanding written and oral communication skills, excellent time management skills, and be able to prioritize effectively. The ideal applicant would have a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Relations, Civics, or a related field. Previous agriculture experience is preferred but not required. The position requires a valid driver’s license and frequent use of a computer. Bristol is convenient to hiking on the Appalachian Trail, rock climbing at Hidden Valley WMA, wild ponies in Grayson Highlands SP, and live music during Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Reunion Festival.
