2021 Safety Resource Development VISTA Summer Associate

The summer associate will create a safety manual for the new Hesed House men’s overnight emergency shelter and the new women’s shelter (housed in the former men’s and women’s shelter). The manuals will include building- and program-specific safety procedures for staff, guests, and volunteers. To produce the manual, the Summer Associate will conduct multiple staff interviews, learn about Hesed’s mission and traditional safety practices, research other shelters’ current practices, as well as gain an understanding of CDC shelter guidelines in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Summer Associate will follow a timeline created with the Hesed House PADS Program Director and set regular meetings for status updates and troubleshooting. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps positions.
