2021-2022 AmeriCorps Financial Empowerment Specialist
 
 
 
The Brightpoint Development Fund (BDF), a subdivision of Brightpoint, is a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency that services low-income individuals in a 17-county area. In addition to one-on-one counseling in Rental and Homeless Assistance, the agency also conducts group education classes to teach participants the fundamentals of money management and finance. The Financial Empowerment Specialist will be responsible for increasing capacity outreach throughout the community by promoting, facilitating and conducting Financial Empowerment programs. The Specialist will have the opportunity to study for and take the HUD Housing Counseling Certification Exam to become a certified housing counselor. The member will have the opportunity to begin facilitating the class either in person or virtually using the FDIC Money Smart curriculum. The AmeriCorps Member will be the first in- house trainer and could likely be hired by Brightpoint if it’s a good fit and the member desires to continue working with Brightpoint. In addition, the Specialist will be responsible for researching and implementing improvements to the program delivery plans for the HEALing Kitchen cooking classes as well as develop and distribute client surveys to increase organizational capacity across the organization. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, able to work independently, and promote positive change in others. The candidate may be asked to work remotely due to the ongoing circumstances regarding COVID-19. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Provide financial education to Brightpoint clients and community members • Help market financial education and services • Help market HEALing Kitchen cooking classes • Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested including presence at community events, creation of new programs and presentations • Assist with the on-going planning and networking to coordinate and strengthen Financial Empowerment Services and HEALing Kitchen cooking classes in the community • Assist Planning Coordinator in developing feedback and program evaluation tools to expand capacity for Brightpoint clients • Plan/participate in several small/large local/national service projects • Implement Brightpoint Values at all times. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES • Attend and positively participate at all Brightpoint Operations meetings and AmeriCorps meetings, and professional development trainings as they become available.
