2021-2022 Community Engagement Liaison VISTA
 
 
 
The Alliance leads a network of stakeholders dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in suburban Cook County. Our housing system provides a coordinated continuum of interventions for people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.Our systemwide approach is rooted in cross-sector collaboration, data-driven decision making, and removing structural barriers to housing. The Community Engagement Liaison will advance the work of the Alliance by 1) strengthening our ability to clearly articulate the role of the Alliance to make sure the most impacted communities are aware and connected to our housing system, 2) building the capacity of community-based organizations to participate in our housing system, and 3) developing a governance structure that centers the voices of people with lived experience in designing our housing system. An ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience: • Enthusiasm and passion for ending and preventing homelessness • Experience working with people who have experienced homelessness, housing instability or other client-centric work • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences • Ability to work with and collaborate effectively with a diverse team of staff and community stakeholders This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : 1. Expand understanding of homelessness, suburban Cook County homelessness system, and lived experiences of homelessness and housing stability so that VISTA can think critically and can confidently communicate key issues to various audiences. 2. Craft strategy, using principles of ethical storytelling, to include voices of people with lived experience in all communication materials. By the end of the VISTA project, VISTA will have facilitated and recorded two stories that can be incorporated into website and communication materials. 3. Provide capacity-building support to at least 10 new community-based partners (nonprofit or government entity) that includes increasing knowledge of how to connect individuals to our CoC system and creates more formal partnership for agencies to gain access to CoC resources. 4. Facilitate lived experience governance structure; VISTA will recruit at least 10 individuals who will participate and be compensated for their participation.
