2021 Web Designer Summer Associate VISTA

This position will be dedicated to the research, design, and implementation of a new SSHC website where clients can request services more efficiently. SSHC programs address the longstanding racial inequities many in our service area struggle with, whether that is paying their mortgages or facing discrimination when finding a place to call home. These issues are increasing, and we anticipate an influx of new clients with COVID-19-related mortgage distress as moratoriums and forbearance options end. The AmeriCorps Summer Associate will bring their web development education (or experience) to this position to build a website designed for user experience and client acquisition. The completion of this project will increase our capacity to serve individuals by improving current processes and simplifying data management. This position will become familiar with housing counseling and fair housing intake processes to determine if intake software can be integrated into the site. An ideal candidate for this position is educated in web design and development, understands best practices for increasing traffic through search engine optimization (SEO), and is knowledgeable of available CRM systems and website platforms. The selected candidate will take this project from start to finish; the ability to conceptualize and execute web development is crucial. We are looking for someone that is dedicated, forward-thinking, and has the strong computer and technical skills required for this position (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript). Understanding of housing counseling, fair housing, or nonprofit experience a plus. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website.
