DSNWK Food Bank Nutrition VISTA
 
 
 
Increase efficiency of the food bank and support program by recruiting volunteers to ensure participants we serve receive food products and utilize the food products in an efficient manner and increase utilization of nutritional options based on donations received. The VISTA will help expand and strengthen partnership/networks with other food pantries, extension offices, county health officials. The VISTA Volunteer would need to have an interest in healthy eating, knowledge of cooking skills, organizational skills and good communication skills.

Member Duties : Increase recruited volunteers to help staff members and volunteers receive, inventory, store, distribute food items received from food sources. Research storage safety of food items and rotation of food items and develop procedures for food safety storage that meet regulations.Research possible ways to expand the Kansas Food Band and Feeding America programs with in DSNWK as well as the community. Increase health and fitness for individuals with developmental services and staff that support them. Collaborate with the Summer Wellness VISTA Member to research potential activities, health webinars, etc. to support health and wellness. Research training that could target direct care staff increase health cooking skills. Research other ways to help provide healthier meals, snacks. Develop a list of healthy food options.
