FCS-URC-Community Engagement Specialist
 
 
 
United Returning Citizens (URC) is a, non-profit corporation that serves the Youngstown, Ohio Tri-County area. Our organization provides job search and training, life and financial literacy skills, transitional and stable housing primarily for citizens reentering society from correctional facilities. As there is a well-established correlation between joblessness and homelessness, and the overall impact on daily existence, we seek to provide a holistic approach to enable all citizens who are otherwise disadvantaged and disenfranchised to become productive and reconnected members of their community. URC seeks a Community Engagement Specialist to‘keep their ears on the streets’ and learn what resources are needed for those returning home from incarceration and those that remain incarceratedto develop new programming for our clients. Our ideal candidate will support the goals of URC, be comfortable with public speaking and one-to-one communication, demonstrate clear writing skills, and be self-motivated, as well as a team player. Experience in community service/ organizing, nonprofit organizations is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media preferred.The VISTA member will be expected to contribute substantively to the URC strategic planning, program expansion, development and implementation of strategies to advance the programs, and promote partnerships.Must have a strong work ethic and be an enthusiastic innovative, self-motivated motivator who can skillfully organize, prioritize and problem solve while maintaining a good sense of humor, empathy and a strong commitment to social justice

Member Duties : The URC Community Engagement Specialist willEngage community to assess existing and develop new programming and projects to support URC client’s health/wellness and economic self-sufficiency; Develop an outreach plan to promote and sustain URC’s priorities to advocacy efforts to integrate and support returning citizens back home into their communities; Ensure URC’s sustainability through strategic planning, partnerships, and a volunteer recruitment/management system.
