2021-2022 Volunteer Marketing and Training Coordinator

At Hesed House, we continue to find ways to serve the most vulnerable in our community at our homeless shelters despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic decimated the on-site group volunteering program at Hesed House, a former 7,000 volunteer per year system vital to the long-term sustainability of the shelter. Hesed’s shelters run on a Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) framework which doesn’t survive without the ability for the community to serve our guests in program. This AmeriCorps VISTA position will safely re-introduce on-site group volunteering at Hesed House by determining COVID volunteer safety protocols and new volunteer roles for our new men’s shelter, women’s shelter, daytime drop-in center, and family shelter programs, as well as other volunteer programs as applicable such as the donations sorting team, clothes closet team, building and grounds teams and children’s program teams. The VISTA will create system materials. The VISTA will then recruit, train and manage volunteer groups into the new COVID-aware programs. The ideal candidate for this position should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as a positive persona and drive to help community members understand and meet the needs of our guests. The ideal candidate should also be proficient in all Microsoft Office software, possess good organizational skills, work well as part of a team, and be a highly motivated self-starter. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program at Housing Action’s website.
