2021-2022 Volunteer Coordinator VISTA

Homelessness is solvable. We prevent and end homelessness across northern Cook County through three primary programs: eviction prevention, shelter, and housing. Our work is driven by our community who help us serve more than 3,300 people each year. In addition to our direct services, we address the root causes of homelessness through our advocacy work. We created and lead Joining Forces for Affordable Housing, a coalition that brings together hundreds of partners from across the region who amplify the conversation about the need for affordable homes. Volunteers are central to our work fighting homelessness and support every element of our programming. Last year, more than 1,200 volunteers engaged in our work. The AmeriCorps member will partner with Connections’ Volunteer Program Manager to strengthen the capacity of our volunteer program. Through this work, the AmeriCorps member will activate greater community engagement that inspires new and existing volunteers to work toward our shared vision where everyone has a safe, stable place to call home. The Volunteer Coordinator will be detail-orientated and highly organized. They will have strong communication and inter-personal skills with a variety of audiences. Being able to work independently is essential. Preferred experience for someone who has managed large-scale (50-200+) events or efforts. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website.
