2021-2022 Community Education Coordinator VISTA

Homelessness is solvable. We prevent and end homelessness across northern Cook County through three primary programs: eviction prevention, shelter, and housing. Our work is driven by our community who help us serve more than 3,300 people each year. In addition to our direct services, we address the root causes of homelessness through community education and outreach. We make incredible progress through this coalition to bring attention to the affordable housing crisis, educate partners about the impact of systemic racism in housing policies, and offer a coalition and platform to encourage community partnerships. The AmeriCorps member will work closely with our Advocacy Manager and Community Organizer to build upon this success and help expand the capacity of Joining Forces members to meet community needs. The AmeriCorps Member will also build the capacity of the advocacy program by developing strategies to increase community awareness and demystify affordable housing. The Community Education Coordinator will have excellent written and verbal skills and strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, along with analytical abilities combined with an empathic and compassionate mindset. This position is a part of the Housing Action AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Learn more about the program on Housing Action’s website.
