Project POWER - Capacity Building & Volunteer Management

Project POWER, a program of Children First/Communities In Schools, seeks to support children and families to succeed inside and outside of the classroom. AmeriCorps Members help engage youth to increase attendance, successfully complete coursework, improve behavior, and to engage parents in the learning process while also providing support to families to increase access to basic needs services. Our goal is to engage Pre-K - 12th grade students through academic enrichment services which include classroom assistance, homework help, STEM or school garden curriculum creation and implementation, and leadership in after-school/summer programming. AmeriCorps Members may also provide volunteer management, community outreach, and trainings to ensure area nonprofits and schools support families in accessing basic needs services to combat food insecurity, lack of affordable housing, domestic violence, and lack of access to quality early childhood programming. Members will serve at schools, after-school programs, Pre-K settings, STEM labs, and at nonprofits and faith-based organizations to support the closure of the achievement gap and provide opportunities to all our students and families to succeed. During the service year, Members will participate in Team Meetings and Trainings to gain skills in nonprofit management, leadership, and conflict resolution to prepare members for service and their future professional endeavors. Project POWER is an equal opportunity employer. Members will abide by AmeriCorps Prohibited Activities during service hours.
