Summer- Tanager Place CDF Freedom Schools

Tanager Place is bringing the first CDF Freedom Schools site to the state of Iowa this summer! We are looking for individuals to fill the role of Servant Leader Intern (SLI) for our first summer programming. This programming has its roots deep in the Civil Rights Movement and the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project of 1964. Programming aims to give all children access to enhance their education and experiences over the summer months through an evidence-based, multicultural curriculum. The curriculum is designed to provide young readers with access to books and lesson plans that show characters, heroes, authors, and illustrators who look like them and have had similar life experiences as them. Programming also aims to provide children with experiences that will enrich all areas of their lives and give them opportunities to have fun, engage with their community, and learn how to advocate for social justice causes that matter to them. We are looking for SLIs who will act as encouragers, role models, advocates, and connectors with our scholars.
