MSNM-Music Education Research & Innovation Coordinator VISTA

To serve our students at the Minneapolis School of New Music (MSNM), we believe it is important to provide them opportunities in music education. Contemporary music and music of this time and of this place is important to students. We want the music education curriculum and pedagogy to be (1) of the moment, (2) culturally appealing and relevant, and (3) innovative. The majority of students at MSNM are Black and live in households in economic poverty. Our mission and vision is inextricably intertwined with racial equity in education and anti-poverty practices. The basis for this VISTA Position is to entice students to love school and to provide opportunities for students to amplify their voices and share their genius with the world. The Minneapolis School of New Music Research & Innovation Coordinator will research best practices in music education throughout educational journals, books, observations, seminars, and interviews. They will write a curriculum and work with teachers and school leaders at the Minneapolis School of New Music to plan and implement the new curriculum. Finally, they will develop written frameworks for the school’s music curriculum spanning grades 6-12. The school will use these frameworks as a foundational document for the multifaceted music education program.
