Serve Philadelphia Summer Associates
The City of Philadelphia’s Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service is now accepting applications from qualified candidates to join the 2021 Serve Philadelphia Summer Associate Program. Serve VISTA members perform indirect service to support City Departments that fight injustices and causes of poverty in Philadelphia for 10 weeks June-August. Each VISTA position is unique to the Department or initiative, but all Serve Philadelphia VISTAs build capacity through using civic engagement tools. There are currently, three critical and intersecting needs that the City of Philadelphia is working directly to address: COVID-19 response and recovery efforts especially related to housing, food insecurity, and workforce development; programming to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in communities; and programming to prevent summer learning loss for K-12 students. Applicants must be: 18 or over and a US citizen or permanent resident. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in antipoverty efforts, social justice and volunteerism, the ability to work and collaborate with diverse communities and stakeholders, strong organizational skills, communication skills and open to new experiences and growth.

Member Duties : Each Summer VISTA position is unique to the department, program or initiative but all Serve Philadelphia VISTAs build capacity through utilizing civic engagement skills. Civic engagement skills include, but are not limited to: Goal Setting, Data & Evaluation, Asset Mapping, Community meeting Management, Timelines & Benchmarking, Targeting & Recruitment, Volunteer Management, Media and Marketing, and Building Coalitions. Using these skills, VISTAs will create tools, systems, and materials to build capacity towards their project.
