CCMA Towson Northeastern Food Security Initiative

The Food Insecurity Initiative is a plan to create a new food pantry (Food Share) on the campus of Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (and Harford County) over the next three years. The program plan is to create a Food Pantry (Food Share) based on research and assessments gathered. Collaborations from community partners and TUNE students will be expected to gain expertise and feedback along the way. Duties will include marketing of the pantry, recruitment of volunteers, education, trainings, programming, and an advisory group. There will be a tracking system in place and new measurable goals implemented each year. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member, their supervisor, and student leaders and volunteers will be the major collaborators on this project. By end of year 3, the goal is to have the Food Pantry (Food Share) at TUNE fully sustainable.

Member Duties : The member will respond to the issue of Healthy Futures by offering a new food pantry to the campus of Towson University in Northeastern Maryland over the next three years. The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member in year 1 will assist in creating the framework for the project by utilizing data gathered from campus surveys, along with institutional data to target underrepresented students facing food insecurity. They will promote the Food Share while building campus and community partnerships to ensure the success of the project and recruit and train pantry volunteers that can help with daily operations. Each year they would be tracking and reporting on the impact of the Food Share Program while suggesting new measurable goals to ensure the success of the project can be tracked and assessed over three years.
