FamilyWise Services- Community Capacity Development VISTA

Since 1976, FamilyWise Services (FWS) has been educating & empowering families struggling with poverty, substance abuse, mental health issues, homelessness & domestic violence, with a mission to strengthen families by promoting the safety, stability, & well-being of children. FWS fulfills this mission by educating communities about a collection of research called NEAR science (Neurobiology, Epigenetics & Historical Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) & Resilience Research) so local champions can transform their understanding of how trauma impacts long-term health into action to support community resiliency-building efforts. FWS holds the state license for the ACE Interface curriculum & trains presenters to sustain awareness of NEAR science in their communities. FWS provides these presenters ongoing learning opportunities & technical assistance to embed the capacity development process into their local efforts, which emphasizes that equity & community wisdom are a vital part of the planning effort. Ultimately, FWS supports trauma-responsive policies & practices at the individual, family, organizational, community, & systems level across the state of Minnesota. Since 2013, ACE Interface presenters have educated over 20,000 people about NEAR science, & FWS is currently partnering with 50+ counties & 5 tribes across Minnesota. The VISTA will primarily focus on expanding the breadth & depth of offerings & resources for the presenter network & community partners.
