Veteran Services Coordinator VISTA
 
 
 
The goal of the project is to expand capacity and create sustainable solutions for the veterans and their families in Shelby County toward the goal of increasing economic opportunity and viability. The Veterans Services Office serves the 77,000 veterans in this area, with programming aimed at improving economic and overall well-being. Our community partners also serve veterans and military families with anti-poverty initiatives. The VISTA Volunteer will expand capacity and build an infrastructure for 1) benefits claims filing, 2) program development, 3) coordinated veterans support and 4) community outreach.

Member Duties : Develop a comprehensive knowledge base of the veterans’ community and its needs, as well as the Veterans Services Office, in preparation to improve and expand upon the Veterans Services Offices and community partners’ operations, programming, coordination of services, outreach and performance management. Conduct a needs survey of local veterans’ services and identify service needs and gaps, then develop a resource guide of existing services, as well as a formal strategy, with timelines, resources and costs, to address service gaps. Promote efforts within the veteran community to provide coordinated and more comprehensive efforts to meet the needs of veterans and their families. Build capacity and support sustainability for the Veterans Services Office and community partners to obtain more and better outcomes from provided services. Train and develop veteran, community and internal leaders and equip them with tools to help sustain program viability.
