Blight Program VISTA

The City of Memphis Mayor’s “Better Memphis Anti-Poverty Plan” includes a component for Blight Elimination which is overseen by the newly created Public Service Corps (PSC). This program offers part-time work to men and women to help clean up our city, while at the same time getting them enrolled in one of our local technical or community colleges by utilizing the Tennessee Promise program. The participants strive to rise out of homelessness and poverty for a better life. The VISTA project goal is to strengthen organizational capacity and increase operational resources directed toward promoting individuals out of homelessness and poverty through anti-blight awareness, education, job skills, and employment. This will include establishing new partnerships and enhancing collaboration with existing partners. The VISTA will be involved with establishing a pool of volunteer from the business community to assist with service delivery.
